I remember as a little girl in order to go swimming in a public pool, all girls/women needed to wear a rubberized swim cap to keep hair out of the pool. Swim caps came in the colors of the rainbow and most of them had decorations on them. Flowers. Rubber flowers. When I see this photo of Sammy in her flowered headband, I smell chlorine for some reason.

did they actually have pools back then??? i thought you found the closest pond or lake...you know, having to walk 10 miles in the snow, w/ no shoes, up hill both ways...yada yada yada
